چکیده

Non-ketotic hyperglycemia with hemichorea-Hemiballismus (HGSC) is a rare complication of non-equilibrated diabetic disease characterized by continuous rapid, non-rhythmic, involuntary unilateral movement the extremities, caused in most cases decreased activity contralateral subthalamic nucleus basal ganglia. It may reveal undiagnosed diabetes. We describe here case an 84-year-old Moroccan woman followed for type 2 diabetes mellitus under treatment, who presented abnormal movements right half-body. Laboratory tests showed higher blood glucose levels, urinary ketones were negative, brain CT without injection high density ganglia on left side.

Hemichorea-Hemiballism Secondary to Non-Ketotic Hyperglycemia

Non-ketotic hyperglycemia is an unusual and rare cause of hemichorea-hemiballismus. Correction of the hyperglycemia usually results in total resolution of the signs and symptoms. We present the case and medical imaging findings of a 66-year-old female who presented with steadily worsening choreiform and ballistic movements of the right upper and lower extremities over a 2-week period. Her serum...

A Case of Hemichorea-Hemiballismus Due to Nonketotic Hyperglycemia

N onketotic hyperglycemia is a rare cause of hemichorea-hemiballismus. It is more common among postmen-opausal woman and can be the first presentation of diabetes mellitus (1). This case report illustrates the importance of distinguishing this cause from other intracranial pathologies as prompt glycemic control leads to complete resolution of the symptoms and signs. Amelioration of Persistent, Non-Ketotic Hyperglycemia-Induced Hemichorea by Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Diabetic hemichorea-hemiballism with non-ketotic hyperglycemia is usually a benign syndrome. Here, we report a 78-year-old woman with persistent hemichorea (HC) for longer than 1 year with a recurrence after rapid correction of hyperglycemia. Following the disappearance of the characteristic T1 hyperintensity at 3 months after onset, an MRI demonstrated T2* hypointensity and atrophic changes in...
